"You take your prenatals, you've done the tests and go for regular exams. Why not take one more important, safe and natural measure to ensure your health and that of your baby? Find out more about safe, natural chiropractic care."
Pregnancy is one of the most amazing times in the life of a woman and her family. It is filled with a constant flurry of emotions and physical changes. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that a woman take the very best care of her health and that of her baby! During the nine months of pregnancy, a woman will often receive a series of examinations by her doctor or midwife to help ensure optimal health and avoid unexpected pitfalls.
Today’s educated woman seeks the kind of healthcare that takes into account the entire person; mind, body and spirit. Chiropractic care is an excellent form of safe and natural healthcare which honors the patient as a whole.
The purpose of chiropractic care is to help optimize the expression of the nervous system whose job is to control all of the functions of the body—including the development of the baby in the womb. What better time to ensure a healthy nervous system than at such a crucial time of development!
"What can I expect on my first visit to the office?"
On your first visit, we will go on a fact-finding mission. Our goal is to learn as much about you and your pregnancy as possible. To accomplish this, we will take a very detailed history, followed by a consultation with the doctor. Once this is complete, Dr.
Celeste will perform a chiropractic examination to diagnose misalignments, called subluxations, in the spine and pelvis, which may cause interferences to your health and that of your baby. She may feel for the position of your baby and palpate for healthy abdominal movement. The examination is very gentle and no x-rays will be taken. If you are in significant discomfort or have another pressing issue, you may, at the Doctor’s discretion, receive an adjustment on the first visit. Once your examination is complete, we will compile a
Relating Your Findings. This Relating Your Findings is a consultation which will help you get the most out of your care.
Answering the Most Important Questions About Chiropractic for the Pregnant Woman
"Is chiropractic safe?"
Yes! Chiropractic is very safe and sensible for you and your baby. Dr.
Celeste has been trained to adjust the spines of pregnant women and has special tables that can be modified to keep you comfortable—even into your ninth month! In addition, because chiropractors do not prescribe medication, you and your baby will not be exposed to the dangerous side-effects that drugs can sometimes produce.
"How long will treatment last?"
How much chiropractic care is needed will depend upon the complexity of your condition, how long your subluxations have been present and your ability to follow up on the doctor’s recommendations outside the office. Sometimes when patients come to our office, they have a specific complaint which may need intensive care in the beginning. As the spine becomes more stable and healthy nerve transmission is restored, the frequency of care decreases. Many of our patients stay on with chiropractic care long after symptoms disappear because they have experienced that being subluxation-free helps them stay at their best. However, how long a person chooses to receive care is always up to her.
"How much does care cost?"
The cost of care depends upon a number of factors. Our office participates with some insurance companies. And we are happy to verify your insurance benefits for you. If we do not participate with your insurance, we will file your claims electronically so that you can be reimbursed quickly.
"What is an adjustment?"
An adjustment is a gentle, controlled force applied by the doctor’s hands to the area of misalignment of the spine and pelvis. Most adjustments feel great and many pregnant mommies feel a sense of relief afterward. The Doctor uses techniques specially modified to accommodate your stage of pregnancy.
"What is myofascial or trigger point therapy?"
This is a gentle technique used to help loosen tense, constricted and painful muscles and increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the tissues. It also allows for more room for your baby to move around-- and that spells relief for mommy!
"What is the Webster In-Utero Constraint Technique?"
This gentle technique helps relax the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis. Once these structures are relaxed, this may allow your baby to turn him or herself to the optimal head-down position. Current literature reports that this technique is successful up to 95% of the time. The sooner we get to see you, the better!
"What is the Bagnell Technique?"
This technique aligns the pelvis of the mother whose baby is mal-positioned. It is a very effective way to encourage a proper vertex (head down) presentation of the baby.
"Do I have to have a problem in my pregnancy to see a chiropractor?"
Not at all! Chiropractic should be used as a form of preventative maintenance for even the most healthy and uncomplicated pregnancies. Periodic checkups should be as common as your periodic weight check-ups.
"I’m already 8 months pregnant. Is it too late for me to get chiropractic care?"
Although it’s best to start from the very beginning, don’t worry. It’s never too late for chiropractic care! Patients can even receive adjustments during labor.
"Can spinal care help postpartum depression?"
Chiropractic is beneficial for people with emotional stress. Medical journals have reported that postpartum depression is rare in patients receiving manipulative therapy.
"Can my baby receive chiropractic care?"
Of course! We highly recommend this as soon after birth as possible. In fact, your baby’s first wellness check-up is on the house.
"Can you tell me about Dr. Krawchuk? What is her background in pre-natal care and pediatrics?"
